Revolving Moments, 2026
Arnaud MAGUET & Nico MORCILLO
As a nod to their friend Jean Dupuy and his Revolving Stage (1976), this project proposes not to rotate the performer in front of the audience, but rather to rotate the audience between the musicians, by means of sound recording.
The recording set-up: in a chosen location – such as the eac.’s exhibition rooms, the park in Mouans or the town centre of Mouans-Sartoux – the two artists sit facing each other on stools. They have a selection of acoustic instruments (guitars, percussion, flutes…) which they may (or may not) use to improvise. Between them, on a fairly slow turntable, sits a lightweight digital recorder with panoramic microphones, capturing the sounds produced by the protagonists, the surrounding soundscape and any comments from visitors or passers-by, all in an extremely dynamic instant mix, since every source moves around within the stereo field.
Each piece produced in this way lasts no more than 3 minutes. This is the time offered by the wind-up spring mechanism of the first gramophones, a set rotation time that later lived on in the music industry in the form of the single, a median duration that remains the norm in popular music today.
